Governor Alia highlights importance of research in enhancing societal growth

The Governor of Benue State, Rev Hyacinth Alia, has described research as an academic necessity and a way of enhancing societal growth and seeking sustenance.

Governor Alia gave the acknowledgment at the 37th inaugural lecture of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi while speaking during a Lecture titled, “the Developmental State and Industrialization In Nigeria: Lessons From South Korea.

Represented by his deputy, Barr Sam Ode, the governor noted with delight the academic growth of the institution.

He eulogized Professor Eugene Aliegba, a Professor of Political Economy and Development Studies at the institution as a dependable asset for the educational growth and development of Nigeria, particularly Benue State.

The Govérnor said Prof Aliegba has contributed immensely in nurturing People morally and academically.

He said the Benue State government under his leadership would tap from the professor’s wealth of experience to impact maximally in the sector.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen Dr George Akume, represented by Dr John Tsuwa while speaking said the theme of the lecture was apt and in tandem with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

The SGF also described Prof Aliegba’s intellectual prowess as monumental and recognizable by both the academic and political class.

Another Guest and former Senator representing Benue North East, Gabriel Suswam in his presentation recalled with satisfaction the contributions of Prof Aliegba while serving as Commissioner, under his administration in Benue State.

Senator Suswam advised upcoming lecturers of the university to emulate the academic lifestyle of excellence sustained by Aliegba.

Meanwhile, Professor Aliegba, a Professor of Political Economy and Development Studies, had during his presentation advocated for the best brains to be appointed in critical sectors to produce the desired results.

He accused politicians of non-performance and called for attitudinal change in the nation’s democracy and advocated for the full embrace of technical education to enhance Nigeria’s industrial growth.

In his vote of thanks, the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Prof Suleiman Bala appreciated all who attended the event.

He revealed that Aliegba’s exceptional qualities have enabled the university to establish a Centre for European Studies where he is the pioneer Director.

The Lecture attracted dignitaries within and in the diaspora including members of the Benue State Executive Council, Vice Chancellors of Universities, and the Political class.
