House Confirms Appointment Of Service Chiefs

The House of Representatives has confirmed the appointment of the Chief of Defense Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede and other Service Chiefs.

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee that screened the Service Chiefs, as presented by the Chairman of the committee, Mr. Babajimi Benson at plenary.

He said that the committee unanimously resolved “That the House do consider the Report of the Ad-hoc Committee on the Screening of the Nominees for Appointment as Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and approve recommendation therein”.

(I) that Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede be confirmed as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone the screening process of this Committee;

(ii) _ that Major General Waidi Shaibu be Confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone screening process of this Committee

(iii) that Rear Admiral Idi Abbas be confirmed as the Chief of Naval Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone screening process of this Committee;

(iv) that Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke be confirmed as the Chief of Air Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone screening process of this Committee”.

He urged the House to do the patriotic thing by asceeding to the request.

The Chairman of the committee of the whole and the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu approved the recommendations.

” It is the chairman’s report that the House in the committee of the whole consider the report of the Ad-Hoc committee on the screening of the nominees for appointments as Chief of Defense Staff and Service Chiefs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and approved recommendations 1,2,3,4 of the report as a working instrument of the Parliament”, Mr. Kalu said.
