The House of Representatives has joined Nigerians in profound appreciation of the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, and solemn remembrance of those who have paid the supreme price in defence of peace, unity, and sovereignty.
The Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Mr Akin Rotimi said that on this Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, the House honours the gallantry, discipline, and unwavering dedication of the military personnel, whose sacrifices continue to safeguard the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by the people.
” Those who defend our nation deserve not only our gratitude today, but our lasting commitment to the peace they secure. Their courage in confronting terrorism, banditry, and criminal violence, and their steadfast support to sister security agencies across the country, remains a service Nigeria must always honour.
” The House also acknowledges the resilience of serving personnel across all theatres of operation, often under difficult and dangerous conditions, and recognises the enduring sacrifices of their families, who share in the burdens of national service,” Mr. Rotimi said.
Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Mr Babajimi Benson stated that the House of Representatives welcomes the redesignation of the annual commemoration as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day by the Federal Government.
He noted that the new designation rightly underscores the dual importance of honouring the memories of the nation’s fallen heroes while actively celebrating the bravery, professionalism, and patriotism of serving military personnel.
“This balanced recognition affirms that national remembrance must go hand in hand with appreciation for those who continue to stand watch in defence of Nigeria’s peace, security, and sovereignty.
” As a parliament, the House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to supporting policies, legislation, and oversight that strengthen the welfare, capacity, and professionalism of the Armed Forces, while advancing a secure and peaceful Nigeria for all citizens,” he said.
He prayed that the souls of Nigerian fallen heroes rest in perfect peace and that their service continue to inspire national unity, civic duty, and collective responsibility.
