President Muhammadu Buhari says he has used his seven years so far in office to create a better Nigeria and he has done that with the support of God and citizens of the country.
The President made the declaration in a nationwide broadcast to mark the 62nd Independence anniversary of the country.
He said: “I was called to serve, along with my team, I saw an opportunity to create a better Nigeria, which we have done with the support of Nigerians. Almighty God and the good people of Nigeria supported us in laying a solid foundation for the Nigeria of our dreams.”
President Buhari used the occasion to thank Nigerians, whose tremendous goodwill gave him the opportunity to serve the country.
“With a deep sense of gratitude to God and a high level of appreciation to all Nigerians, whose tremendous goodwill gave me the opportunity to provide leadership for our great country at one of the trying times in her history,” he added.
The President however noted that the country faced a lot of challenges in the process but they were surmounted due to sheer determination to succeed.
“In the past few years we have witnessed and overcome a good number of challenges that would have ordinarily destroyed our nation however, the indefatigable spirit of the Nigerian people has ensured that we overcome our challenges.
“It is in this spirit that I call on all of us to individually and collectively bring to the fore in dealing with all our development issues,” he added.
The President used the Independence Day broadcast, which was his last for such an anniversary as he winds down his second tenure of office next year; to urge citizens to always demand for citizens centred services from public servants.
“Reforms in the public sector are already yielding results especially in the delivery of services. On this note, I urge the general public to demand for citizens-centred services from the relevant authorities,” he said.
On the international scene, the Nigerian leader assured citizens that the country will continue to take advantage of her good relations with friendly nations and explore cooperation to enhance the livelihood of all Nigerians.
