The Vice-Chancellor (VC), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has distanced himself from two social media accounts, describing the owner as an impostor.
In a statement issued by the Principal Assistant Registrar/Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu, the VC gave the alleged phone numbers as: +234-706-566-4894 and 0708-572-9278, alerting members of the public to various fraudulent practices perpetrated by the alleged impostor.
The statement reads in part: “The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, hereby publicly dissociates himself from the under-listed phone numbers: +234-706-566-4894 and 0708-572-9278, which the Truecaller App had shown to belong to one Dr. Anthony Igwe.
“The owner of the phone numbers is an impostor who poses as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan on Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and Instagram.
“He calls and invites people on the social media platforms to partake of appointment opportunities and other dubious businesses upon the payment of fees.
“The Vice-Chancellor categorically states that he is not the owner of the telephone numbers and had not assigned anybody to act on his behalf.
“Efforts are being made to track and arrest the impostor while the Vice-Chancellor appeals to members of the public not to transact business with anyone on his behalf, especially on the social media,” the statement said.
