Breaking: INEC declares Tinubu winner of Nigeria’s Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election held on Saturday the 25th of February.

The Chairman of INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated “That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,”

Mahmood said a Certificate of Return for the President and Vice President elect will be presented by 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the National Collation Centre.

Tinubu, the presidential candidate of  All Progressives Congress polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party who polled 6,984,520 votes.

The other close contestants in the election were the candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi who polled 6,101,533 votes and the candidate of New Nigeria’s Political Party Rabiu Kwankwaso who polled 1,496,687 votes.

Voice of Nigeria reports that 18 political parties participated in the keenly contested election which had the total number of registered voters in the country as 93,469,008, accredited voters as 25,286,616, valid votes as 24,025,940 and rejected votes as 939,278.
