The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government of Nigeria, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly his wife, Aisha Buhari, and his children.
The government also commiserated with the Government and people of Katsina State, where the late President was born, as well as with all Nigerians mourning the national loss.
The Information Minister described the late President as a champion of policies focused on national unity, social investment, infrastructure development, and the fight against insecurity.
He noted that Buhari’s leadership style was defined by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
Buhari’s legacy includes his tenure as Military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985 and his historic return as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023—marking him as one of the few Nigerian leaders to serve in both capacities. His victory in the 2015 general election was widely seen as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
In recognition of his contributions to national development, President Tinubu has ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast from July 13 to July 20, 2025.
The Minister urged Nigerians to honour Buhari’s legacy by embracing the values he stood for discipline, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, are currently in London to accompany the late President’s remains back to Nigeria for burial, in line with directives from President Tinubu.
