Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians of the President’s readiness to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects.
The Information Minister stated this at the Inspection of the over N180billion Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja road which is under construction.
The road, which traverses Enugu, Ebonyi and Cross River states is a federal project being executed by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The Minister visited the Nkalagu section of the road where he was briefed by the project manager on the progress of the work.
“The President has instructed that all obstacles be removed to ensure that these roads are completed in good time for the benefit of the people of Nigeria, especially those in the southeast.
“This road here in the south is connecting Enugu State, Ebonyi State and Cross River State. This is one of the major projects that we are doing for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“As a matter of fact, we want to ensure connectivity, especially in the southeastern region.
“The president is working hard to ensure that the people of the southeast are not left behind in his march towards ensuring that there is massive infrastructural development across Nigeria.”
The project Manager, Busari Yusuf, explained the progress made so far.
“The project is a total of about 88 kilometres, dual carriage in some sections and single carriage in some sections. Running from Enugu to Abakeliki to Ogojap, and it’s valued at 183 billion Naira. Currently, we are working in different sections. Here, we are working on the rehabilitation, where we have conducted geotechnical tests.
” We are done with some layers from filling with the boulders and the sharp sand. Then we have moved to the paving with the stone base, which falls within the aggregate envelope. “Now, we are waiting for the moisture content to be at the optimal moisture content. Then, when we run our institute test, we start with our rigid pavement. At the other sections, where you go towards like a drainage 40 plus 700, you will see us doing a headwork going on in that place. It’s a cotton section”.
The delegation also stopped at Izamgbo, which is about 50km to Abakaliki, where the dualization of the road has been completed.
A resident of the area, Solomon Nwanko, who spoke with Voice of Nigeria, said the people of were elated at seeing the progress of work on the project.
He expressed hope that the road, when complete, would reduce accidents that frequently occur around that section of the road.
