A notable traditional ruler in Nigeria, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdu-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, has commended Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for prudently managing the meagre resources of the State. He noted that Osun remains one of the states with the least amount of federal allocations and resources and thus commended the governor for achieving great things with little resources accruable to the State.
Speaking at the 2021 Iwo Day celebration on the weekend, the monarch said Oyetola has convincingly proved its capacity to take Osun to enviable heights.
Oluwo, whose message centred on the development of Iwo, appreciated the spate of development that the ancient town has witnessed in the last three years of Oyetola’s Administration.
“I am not a politician, and I am not here to campaign for anyone, but going by what Osun is earning as allocation every month, Oyetola is doing excellently well. A paltry sum of millions is being allocated to Osun, whereas several states collect billions of naira.
“What Osun received was nothing to write home about, but despite this, Oyetola is doing wonders and great things as in the payment of full salaries and pensions among other socio-economic and infrastructural developments.”
The monarch thanked God for the development and achievements recorded within the last few years of his reign. He remarked that many positive things being witnessed, including the location of the Federal College of Education in Iwo, have the governor’s approval, without which they might not have been possible.
“Oyetola should be congratulated for being awarded the best Governor in Nigeria by notable organisations. Oyetola is a perfect example of what good governance stands for. If someone is doing well, he should be commended,” Oluwo said.
Responding, Governor Oyetola expressed gratitude to the people of Iwo for their unalloyed support for his government since the assumption of office.
He reaffirmed his commitment to socio-economic and infrastructural developments in Iwoland and the State in general, just as he pledged to ensure total rehabilitation of Osogbo-Iwo Road soon.
“I am aware that the little efforts we have made are felt by the people, particularly in the areas of health, infrastructure, education, security, agriculture, among others. Some of our 332 Primary Healthcare Centres are here for the use of our people so also the intervention on road infrastructure,” he said.
Iwo Day celebration enables the gathering of sons and daughters of the ancient Iwo town to discuss issues of development and growth.
