The Red Cross in Jos, the Plateau state capital said a good number of people have responded to the call to donate blood for victims of the recent crisis in Jos, Plateau State.
The Secretary of the humanitarian organization at the north central transfusion centre located within the premises of the Plateau state specialist hospital, Yohana Pam said alot more is needed and called on donors to come forward and save lives.
” it is important for all who can donate to come and save lives by donating blood. Though many people have responded we need more people to come forward and the need is high and urgent,” he said.
Some blood donors, Reverend Father Alex Longs, Gabriel Pam and Naanbam John said they feel refrehed when they donate blood because by helping others they are helping themselves, moreso, God has blessed them with so much blood giving to others is the right thing to do.
A lab scientist at the hospital, Godfrey Pam said they have screened the blood and found them safe to use and that members of the Rotary clubs in Jos donated 30 paints which will also help the victims.
The outbreak of violence in Jos lastweek which caused the death of many and injury to many others caused the blood donation drive to save tye lives of those in dire need of blood transfusion.
Meanwhile, some of the dead have been buried as security operatives are all over the city maintaining peace and order. The dawn to duak curfew still holds in Jos South with 24 hours curfew in Jos north.
