The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kaduna State Command has trained its rescue teams on effective and prompt response to accident victims, aimed at saving lives before the arrival of proper medical care.

The Deputy Corps Commander Operations (DCC) of the Sector Command, Solomon Igbogbo, said that the training themed; ‘Ember months plan and prompt response in rescuing lives and property preparedness, would equip the personnel with the requisite knowledge and serve as a reminder of their duties and responsibilities in providing first class life-saving aids to accident victims.

He added that the purpose of the training was to map out ways of reducing road crashes in the State.

According to him, the rate of road crashes in Kaduna was high, which needed corresponding statutory duty in reducing it, thereby prompting improvement of operational performance of operatives adding that training of paramedics on best practices on how best to carry out first aid was essential.

He stressed the importance of enforcement of speed limit device installation on vehicles, noting that, this would help in reducing speed which is responsible for over 80 per cent of road traffic crash.

Igbogbo, therefore, called on motorists to avoid using mobile phones and gadgets while plying the road as he urged the personnel to always lead by example.

The FRSC Kaduna Acting Sector Commander, Garba Lawal said, “The Corps as a lead agency in road traffic management was in consonance with the Safe System Approach of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety “2021- 2023” and provision of post-crash care to victims of road traffic crashes.

He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to prompt response in saving lives and properties

According to him, “We will continue making the road safe for road users, which is why we recommend devices and works in order to minimize and eliminate crashes, educate and enlighten motorists and the general public on the safe use of the road.

“We will also not relent on removing obstructions from the highway and also ensuring that accident victims get a quick response and adequate medical care.

Lawal said the training would re-equip the personnel on the ways and strategies of saving lives and properties on the road during crashes, which would reduce the number of death on roads in the state.

He, therefore, called on road users to abide by all safety rules and regulations regarding the use of roads.

The Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Musa Shuaibu, said they discovered that FRSC personnel only picked the victims and dump them in the hospital after a road crash.

He said that it was wrong and the training would take them through pre-hospital care on the spot before the crash victim will be taken to the hospital.

Shuaibu added that the personnel would also go through the rudiments of knowing what to do and how to do it, and things to be doing to the victim on the way to the hospital.

He emphasized the need for communication with the hospital by the personnel before the accident victims are brought to enable them to prepare in an emergency.

According to him, “Before victims of road crash are brought to us, we need to know the expected time before they arrive, the nature of Injuries and their ages for us to prepare in handling the victims.

“If for instance, an accident victim requires blood, when they call us we will immediately inform the blood transfusion unit to make it available before the victim arrives,” he added.

The evacuation of road traffic crash demonstration was also done during the training.
