Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill valued at ₦1.47 trillion, aimed at fast tracking development and promoting inclusive growth across the state.
The signing took place during a meeting of the Kano State Executive Council at the Government House, Kano, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
The appropriation law, totalling ₦1,477,829,666,131, was passed last week during plenary by the Kano State House of Assembly after detailed consideration at the Committee of the Whole and its third reading by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Bashir Diso.
Governor Yusuf had earlier presented a budget proposal of ₦1,368,127,929,271 to the Assembly, christened the “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the governor pledged effective implementation of the budget to improve the living standards of the people of the state.
He added that priority would be given to key sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare and social welfare to ensure sustainable and people centred development in Kano State.
Speaking before the signing, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ismail Falgore, described the 2026 budget as historic, noting that it is the first in Northern Nigeria to exceed the ₦1 trillion mark.
He said the Assembly approved the bill to provide the executive arm with the legal framework required to sustain and expand ongoing developmental projects aimed at improving the welfare of Kano residents.
Falgore assured that the Assembly would continue to discharge its oversight responsibilities to ensure prudent implementation of the budget and the judicious use of public funds.
