Kebbi Governor Presents N642.9bn Budget Proposal to Assembly

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris on Thursday presented a proposed N642.9 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

The proposal titled ‘Budget of Transformation and People Empowerment’ has capital expenditure accounting for 75% of the total budget, while recurrent expenditure makes up the remaining 25%.

Capital spending stands at N479.36 billion, while recurrent expenditure totals N163.57 billion.

Stable government

Dr. Idris said the structure of the budget reflects his administration’s commitment to long-term development while ensuring stable government operations.

He explained that the budget would be funded through a main revenue envelope of N338.506 billion from the state’s share of federal allocation, Value Added Tax (VAT), and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He said that this will be supplemented by capital receipts from development partners and targeted financing instruments.

The governor identified agriculture, infrastructure, health, and basic education as key sectoral priorities.

These priority areas were selected based on their potential to drive sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” he said.

Dr. Idris noted that the 2026 budget is designed to promote structural transformation through infrastructure expansion, agricultural growth, and broad-based empowerment of citizens.

He said the budget aims to tackle current challenges while laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient future.“It is rooted in the principles of Kauranomics, centred on social inclusion, agricultural advancement, human capital development, and fiscal responsibility,” he said.

“From Argungu to Zuru, from Bagudo to Yauri, this budget represents our commitment to equitable development and an improved quality of life. It is a budget for growth, empowerment, and progress.”

The governor formally presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the House and appealed for its timely passage.

Dr. Idris also thanked the legislature for its cooperation over the past 31 months, stating that their partnership has strengthened public administration in the state.

He said that the progress recorded across strategic sectors was achieved through the support and constructive engagement of the lawmakers.

He added that they would continue to prioritise development, accountability, and responsible governance.
