The Kwara State Government, North Central Nigeria, has reiterated its determination to invest more in all levels of education in the state.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this known in his address at the 10th and 11th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.
Represented by the Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde, the governor noted that his administration was committed to making teaching and learning conducive for all in the state.

While restating the government’s commitment to completing the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses of the institution, the governor commended the management of the institution for maintaining a stable academic calendar.

“The Kwara State University was established to produce graduates that will take their destiny in their hands,” the governor said, expressing optimism that the graduands would live up to that expectation.

Shun Anti-social Vices
The governor urged the graduands and students to shun all anti-social vices that can truncate the attainment of their dreams.

In his address, the Chancellor of the University, Dr. Johnson Adewumi, said the institution had contributed to the advancement of education across the country.
Dr. Adewumi appealed to the state government to increase operational support to the institution, as the university had prioritized remained steadfast in paying attention to infrastructural development and academic excellence.
In his address, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Lukman Jimoh, said despite other challenges, the university remained consistent in expanding the frontier of knowledge and innovation.
He commended the government for facilitating the environment that promotes research, community development, and industrial harmony in the institution.
Land Encroachment
The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Lukman Jimoh, also urged the state government to urgently intervene in the issues of land encroachment, inadequate hostel accommodation, and access roads within and outside the campus.
Voice of Nigeria’s correspondent reports that a total of sixteen thousand, three hundred and fifteen (16,315) students graduated in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions.
