Football stakeholders in Kwara have resolved to fully support Kwara United Football Club, as the team lock horns with Abia Warriors in its first home match in the 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), on Sunday at Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The stakeholders meeting, staged as part of the annual pre-season activities by the Kwara State Football Association held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Sports Commission on Thursday, was chaired by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji.

Mogaji, while appealing to fans, supporters and spectators to be disciplined, reiterated the state government’s support to the team.

No team pushed out of its domain does well, and the experience of last season has shown us this. So, let us all join hands to ensure we have a successful season.”

The Chairman of the state Football Association, Mr Idris Musa, said that the essence of the meeting was not for Kwara United alone, but for all issues relating to all clubs, irrespective of their cadre, ahead of the new football season.

He said that Kwara FA has not recorded any problem as it related to hosting of league matches owing to the adoption of the pre-season gathering, which he said was being sustained to ensure a hitch-free season.

He therefore advised all the stakeholders to respect the restrictions that would be adopted at home games in Ilorin, as they are all geared towards implementing the rules already laid down by the league bodies.

We have received several commendations from the NPFL in the last five seasons because of the way we handled proceedings during home matches in Ilorin, and we want to sustain that momentum, for the sake of all.”

The stakeholders, especially the Supporters and Fans Club of the team, called for total adherence to the rules, especially as it concerned crowd control, sitting arrangements and observance of NPFL match protocols.

Earlier, the Chairman of Kwara United, Kumbi Titiloye, called for total support for the team, pointing out that the team represents the aspirations of the whole of the indigenes of the state, beyond him as the Chairman, just like for everyone.

We should see the team as our own. I am the Chairman today, and it would definitely be the turn of another set of people tomorrow.

Let’s avoid the experience of last season, especially now that we are back at home. We need to be united for the team,” Titiloye said.
