Kwara United survives relegation after victory against Nasarawa United

Kwara United FC  secured a nervy 1-0 win over Nasarawa United at the Akure Township stadium on Sunday to retain  their status in the Premier league.

The Harmony Boys won the game courtesy of a goal from substitute Ibrahim Yahaya in the 82nd minute after a goalless opening half.

Kwara United started brightly, with Samson Paul firing over the crossbar in minute ten. Adewale Adeyinka, United goalkeeper denied the visitors a chance to take the lead with a brilliant save in the 20th minute.

Ten minutes later, Kabiru Balogun’s free kick was parried by the goalkeeper, while Samad Khadiri’s effort late in the opening game didn’t was not fruitful.

In search of victory, Kabiru Dogo, Kwara United reacted with a double change, introducing Samuel Chisom and Ibrahim Yahaya for Musa AbdulAfeez and Paul Samson.

After missing a series of chances, Kwara United took the lead with eight minutes to the end of the game.

Ibrahim Yahaya fired the ball to the roof of the net, profiting from a cutback pass from Chisom Samuel.

The Harmony Boys held on to the victory despite the pressure from Nasarawa United to get back into the game.

With the victory, Kwara United are four points ahead of Nasarawa United, who will be relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Speaking with sports writers after the game, Coach Kabir Dogo Commended Football lovers in the state for their Support, especially in the area of moral and logistic support, noting that the victory was a special gift to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his assistance to the team since the  inception of his administration.

Earlier, the executive Chairman of the Kwara state sports commission, Mallam Bola Magaji applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for ensuring Kwara United maintain their league status through support and mobilization.
