The Nigerian Public Complaint Commissions says there are labour laws and Industrial standards to enhance the smooth relationship between labour unions and their employers in the country.
The Commissioner, Public Complaint Commission, Mr Chille Igbawua, stated this in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the President, Pan African United Youth Development Network and his team to the Commission.
While reacting to the alleged ill-treatment of Nigerian workers by some foreign companies Mr Igbawua said, “it is the duty of the company to provide Personnel Protective Equipment to their workers and not to enslave them as there are minimum conditions of service”.
He added that in line with the commission’s mandate, the commission will look into the complaint by the workers and take appropriate actions against such maltreatment.
The President, Pan African United Youth Development Network, Ambassador Habibu Muhammad had alleged that some ceramics manufacturing companies, ND Ceramics and West African Ceramics companies, were subjecting their Nigerian staff to poor working conditions.
Ambassador Muhammed presented pictures to the commission as evidence to support his complaint. He called on the Commission to take necessary actions to stop this modern-day slavery.
The Commissioner, Mr Igbawua, commended the President of the Network for the bold steps taken to be a voice to the voiceless.
Mr Igbawua assured Ambassador Muhammed that he can count on the commission for the resolution of his complaint and dispensation of justice. He urged him to always report any future incidences of such infractions to the Commission.
