The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) Mallam Jibrin Ndace has called for strengthened democratic governance and regional stability at the opening of the VON Forum 2026 in Abuja.
Speaking under the theme, “51 Years of Nigeria’s Role in Deepening Democratic Stability in ECOWAS,” he described the Forum as a timely platform to address growing challenges such as unconstitutional changes of government, electoral tensions, and declining public trust in institutions across West Africa.
Mallam Ndace highlighted Nigeria’s leading role in ECOWAS through peacekeeping, diplomacy, and support for democratic governance, noting that the country’s democratic experience since 1999 offers valuable lessons for the region.
The Director-General emphasised the need to strengthen institutions, promote credible elections, and empower citizens, particularly young people, while underscoring the media’s role in fostering transparency and accountability.
He said the Forum aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and provides an opportunity for stakeholders to develop practical solutions to enhance democratic stability in the sub-region.
