Lagos Governor rewards outstanding Teachers

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has fulfilled his promise of keys of houses to the Teacher and Principal from Lagos State who were adjudged the Best in Nigeria by the Presidents Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, PTSEA in Y2019.

 

The Governor also received awardees of Lagos State Y2021 Presidents Teachers and Schools Excellence Award, with a promised to continue to build the teachers capacity to enable them to achieve more towards the development of the Education sector in the State.

 

The Governor represented by the State Commissioner for education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, and Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Maruf Akinderu-Fatai, presented a two bedroom flat to Late Mr. Pius Bababo Ikuseyidunmi, former principal of  Government Junior College, Ketu, Epe who emerged as best school administrator in 2019 and three bedroom apartment to Mrs. Agnes Elusakin, a former teacher at Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu and now the Principal, Community Junior Secondary School who emerged as winner of the best teacher award in 2019.

 

Presenting the house keys to the awardees, Adefisayo stated that the event is in fulfilment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s promise to the 2019 Awardees of the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award for making the State proud, stressing that this administration has continued to provide continuous support for teachers by investing significantly in the sector.

 

Adefisayo condoled with the family of Ikuseyidunmi whose widow received the keys on behalf of the family but encouraged them that Lagos State will forever be proud of his immense contribution as formerly a teacher and while he served as principal in some of our schools.

 

“We are celebrating a very great occasion and we want to announce that Lagos State present one of our schools that won the best school in Nigeria, Bolade Junior Grammar School Oshodi, they are handing over the bus to us and we are here to Commission the bus and to give them the gift that they won in Abuja.

 

‘It’s a double edge celebration, as we also handed keys of houses promised by our Governor to the teacher of the year 2019 and the principal of the school that won the best junior secondary school in Nigeria 2019 he promised them keys of flat.” she said

 

Appreciating the State Government at the presentation of a two bedroom and 3 bedroom flats, Mrs. Agnes Elusakin described the gesture by the Governor as a life transforming act which would encourage better performances in service delivery. She expressed her sincere appreciation to the Governor and promised not to relent in her efforts towards improving her service delivery in the education sector.

 

Adefisayo who was elated to receive the Y2021 awardees said that the State has been up and doing in the area of ensuring that teachers are well equipped with necessary facilities that would improve the quality of education in the State.

 

According to her, “There are many things we have been doing in Lagos, we have been given teachers gifts and I want them to trust us because we, we are for them and will continue to support them with training and ensure we fulfill all our promises to them, they should keep working hard and to ensure that they scale up their effort towards developing the sector.”

 

The awardees of Lagos State Y2021 Presidents Teachers and Schools Excellence Award went to Bolade Junior Grammar School, Oshodi emerging as best public secondary school in the Federation and two teachers; Mrs Temitope Salmot Obiwumi of Wahab Folawiyo Junior Secondary School emerged 2nd Runner Up as the best teacher in Junior Secondary School in Nigeria, while Mr Rasheed Abolanle Odenike of Lagos Sate Civil Service Senior Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu came 4th as best teacher in Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.
