The Lagos state government in South-West Nigeria has mourned the death of former attorney general and Commissioner for justice in the state Chief Shafiu Alade Bashua.

In a message via his Twitter handle, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said: I received with sadness the news of the death of our father, Chief Shafiu Alade Bashua, the 10th Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State. He was an illustrious son of our dear State who impacted the State positively during his tenure as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He continued to make meaningful contributions towards the development of the State before his demise. We celebrate a life well spent and worthy of emulation.

Late Chief Bashua was called to the English Bar in 1968. He teamed up with his older brother Mikhail Bashua as a partner in the law firm M. A. Bashua & Co in 1980. In 1991, he became the Commissioner for Justice in the state.
