Medical Women embark on free cancer screening – Ebonyi

As part of the activities to mark the end of the regime of the immediate past President Medical Women Association of Nigeria Ebonyi State Chapter, Dr Onyinye Uchenna Anyanwu and installation of the 10th President of the Association, Dr Ugochukwu Madubueze, the Association has screened over 200 women of cancer.

The new President of Medical Women Association of Nigeria MWAN Ebonyi State Chapter, Dr Ugochukwu Madubueze disclosed this to Journalists during her Inuguration at International Conference Center Abakaliki Abakaliki Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria.

 

Dr Madubueze, who is also a Consultant Public Health Physician in the Department of Community Medicine, Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki said “having been installed as the new President of MWAN Ebonyi State Chapter, the basic things the Association is going to do is to focus on health of Women and Children, to create more awareness at all levels to get a better health status in Nigeria”

 

Madubueze added that Medical Women are so passionate about Cervical cancer hence this strong and massive campaign against the disease.

 

“We have screened over 200 women at National Obstetrics and Fistula Center NOFIC Abakaliki and those who turned out to be positive are receiving treatment free of charge”

 

The Immediate past President of MWAN, Dr Onyinye Uchenna Anyanwu expressed joy on her successful tenure and hand over.

 

Dr Anyanwu said one of the challenges facing the Association is fund to carry out their numerous activities.

 

Anyanwu therefore called on wealthy Individuals to support the Association to enable them enter hinterlands where their services are needed most.

 

“Medical outreach is one of the ways we normally detect people who are suffering cervical and breasts cancer as well as Fistula, I hereby call on donor agencies to come and support us”. She solicited

 

The past 5th President of the Association, Professor Uzoma Agwu said they are going to give the new president a full support to ensure that the lives of Ebonyi and all Nigeria women are safe.

 

The Chairman Medical Association of Nigeria MNA Dr Umezurike Benjamin thanked the women for organising such unique program.

 

Dr Umezurike who is also the Southeast Chairman of MNA urged the women to be United in all they do.
