The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has commended the Nigerian government for its unwavering commitment to the actualisation of the ongoing Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project.
Umahi, who was accompanied by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, made the commendation during an inspection in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He said; “the superhighway would redefine connectivity, boost commerce, and accelerate socio-economic growth, stressing that it would open new frontiers for trade and industrial expansion across the country.”
According to him, the superhighway, which spans over 1,000 kilometres across multiple states, is one of the largest road projects ever initiated in Nigeria.
He noted that “upon completion, it would revolutionise transport, stimulate regional trade, and support economic diversification.”
Umahi disclosed that the construction firm would commence the concrete overlay within 30 days, marking a new phase of the project.
The Minister commended Hitech Construction Limited for its performance on the Sokoto axis and expressed delight at the pace of work, describing the project as “one of the most transformative ever embarked upon in Nigeria.”
He also appreciated security agencies for ensuring the safety of workers and the smooth progress of construction.
The Minister of State, Bello Goronyo praised Umahi’s commitment to the national assignment and lauded the resilience of the federal leadership in advancing the project despite current economic challenges.
He emphasized that the road holds immeasurable importance for Nigeria’s socio-economic growth and regional integration.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, commended the administration, Umahi, and Goronyo for driving the project.
He described the superhighway as a landmark of the Renewed Hope Agenda, marking the dawn of a new era for the North-West and the nation at large.
The Federal Comptroller of Works in Sokoto, Kasimu Maigwandu, also applauded the Ministers for their dedication, assuring that work was progressing in line with specifications.
The Managing Director of Hitech Construction Limited, Danny, pledged to deliver quality work in line with the mandate of the Nigerian government.
