The Nigerian government has pledged to fast-track the completion of all ongoing public housing projects in 2026, placing renewed emphasis on the flagship Renewed Hope Housing Programme championed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The commitment was announced by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, during an expanded management meeting in Abuja, where senior officials reviewed the ministry’s 2025 performance and unveiled its 2026 work plan.
Mr Dangiwa said the federal government is determined to close funding gaps and clear outstanding liabilities in the housing sector in the 2026 fiscal year, describing housing delivery as a central pillar of the administration’s social and economic agenda.
He stated: “The administration of President Bola Tinubu has made firm commitments to address funding gaps and clear outstanding liabilities in the housing sector in 2026.”
Despite financial constraints in 2025, Mr Dangiwa highlighted “notable achievements,” including reforms in land administration and steady progress on Renewed Hope Cities already under development in Karsana, Abuja, as well as in Kano and Lagos Nigeria’s key commercial and population centres.
He announced that three additional housing projects in Maiduguri, Enugu and Port Harcourt are scheduled for delivery, expanding the total number of Renewed Hope housing developments nationwide to six.
The projects span northern, eastern and southern Nigeria, reflecting the government’s push for geographic balance and national inclusion.

Emphasising accountability and delivery speed, the minister directed officials overseeing Public-Private Partnerships and Public Buildings to strengthen on-site supervision and contractor engagement.
He said: “You need to engage these contractors closely by ensuring that those mobilised return to site and are properly monitored,” stressing that “Nigerians expect affordable and decent housing.”
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore, reinforced the administration’s expectations, urging key departments to meet their 2026 targets and assuring them of institutional backing.
Dr Belgore also announced plans to scale up public communication on housing milestones as part of the government’s 2026 performance scorecard. He noted that Nigerians are “eager to see improved delivery of the Renewed Hope housing programme,” adding that the ministry’s achievements would be given maximum visibility.
