The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed seven facilities in Kaduna for operating illegally and failing to meet regulatory standards.
The closures include an unregistered herbal medicine production centre, a bakery, and five sachet water factories.
The affected facilities are:
- Aji Garau Herbal Medicine Store
- Karkarku Table Water
- 1165 Table Water
- Zaiba Table Water
- Maisalati Table Water
- Rumaisa Table Water
- Al-Ihsan Bread
NAFDAC’s Kaduna State Coordinator, Mr Nasiru Mato, who led the enforcement team, stated that the action followed investigations that revealed gross violations of basic hygiene practices and regulatory requirements.
“We are shutting down these premises for engaging in illegal production without marketing authorisations, and for failing to meet the minimum hygienic standards required for safe food and drug processing,” he said.
Fake NAFDAC Numbers, Unsafe Conditions
Mato warned consumers not to be misled by products bearing NAFDAC registration numbers, explaining that some unregistered producers fraudulently display fake numbers on their packaging.
“The presence of a NAFDAC number on a product does not automatically confirm it is registered. Some manufacturers forge these numbers to deceive consumers,” he said.
“These products have not been certified and pose potential health risks. We are determined to ensure that they are completely withdrawn from circulation.”

Herbal Concoctions in Violation
Particularly alarming was the discovery of ongoing production at the Aji Garau Herbal Medicine Store, where unsanitary conditions, improper equipment, and unqualified personnel were found.
“The production of the concoction ‘Aji Garau’ violated all known safety protocols. The entire process—from the handling of ingredients to packaging—was dangerously unhygienic and misleading to the public,” Mato explained.
He added that all products and materials found at the site have been seized for further investigation and the facility has been sealed as a first-line sanction.
NAFDAC’s Ongoing Enforcement
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protect public health, warning that its enforcement efforts would continue across Kaduna State.
“We are going to intensify our surveillance and continue to go after defiant manufacturers, no matter how remote their locations may be,” said Mato.
The agency urged consumers to report suspicious or unregistered products, and to always verify product authenticity through official NAFDAC channels.
