NGO Bolsters Efforts in Fight Against Corruption

A non-governmental organisation in Nigeria known as the Centre for Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA) is strengthening its capacity to support the war against corruption.

At a Round-table Discussion in Abuja, the NGO canvassed the cooperation of relevant stakeholders as part of its Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting, NAPPR, Project.

The Executive Director of CMPA and project manager, Dr. Suleiman Suleiman urged the past and present heads of Anti-corruption Agencies, mid-level executives representing the various ACA’s, Investigative Journalists, Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, and the Media to collaboratively shape the creation of a standardized template for anti-corruption reporting in Nigeria.

Dr. Suleiman emphasised the importance of data collection for the exercise.

Funded by the MacArthur Foundation, Dr. Suleiman said; “Our goal was to bridge the gap between Anti-Corruption Agencies’ efforts and public perception by uniting CSOs and media organisations in shaping anti-corruption reporting.” 

The Director, of Policy & Strategic Planning, Dr Abdulmutalib Abubakar also reaffirmed the organisation’s vision and commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in Nigeria.

Key discussions at the meeting centred on designing a harmonised framework for reporting anti-corruption activities, with the shared goal of enhancing transparency, consistency, and public awareness.

Participants at the round table discussion include CSOs, Media representatives, governance experts, and stakeholders, engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing best practices, and contributing to the creation of a unified reporting mechanism for Anti-corruption.

The Centre for Media, Policy, and Accountability (CMPA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization incorporated that is focused on anti-corruption, research, public policy analysis, transparency, and accountability.

CMPA is dedicated to strengthening social, economic, and democratic governance in Nigeria.
