The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI) have urged Nigerians at home and abroad to seize emerging opportunities through the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) to drive sustainable national development.

The call was made during a press briefing announcing the 8th edition of the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit, scheduled to hold from 11 to 13 November 2025 in Abuja.

Chairman of NiDCOM, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the Summit, themed “Fast-Tracking Regional and National Development by Mobilising Diaspora Investment,” is designed to connect Nigerians in the diaspora with viable local investment opportunities that promote economic growth and job creation.

She explained that since its inception in 2018, the NDIS has served as a reliable platform for fostering partnerships between diaspora investors and domestic entrepreneurs.

“With each edition, the Summit continues to inspire confidence and structured engagement between the diaspora and local businesses,” she said.

Dr Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the 2024 edition attracted more than 1,500 participants, including 236 investors and 1,197 business owners, resulting in 168 deals valued at about ₦673 million.

She highlighted that key sectors such as the creative industry, sports, infrastructure, real estate, energy, and agribusiness recorded notable progress, with success stories like GAIN Business Incubator and Xtralarge Farms demonstrating the transformative potential of diaspora-led investments.

According to her, several states — including Ondo, Borno, and Nasarawa — have benefited from the platform, citing Ondo State’s port development approval as one of the tangible outcomes.

She added that the summit has contributed over ₦500 million to Nigeria’s local economy through engagement with service providers, creatives, and SMEs.

“The Summit has grown beyond a conference; it is now a catalyst for enterprise, job creation, and youth empowerment,” she noted.

Dr Dabiri-Erewa said the 2025 edition will spotlight priority sectors such as finance and fintech, ICT, healthcare, education, and energy, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, expected as the Special Guest of Honour.

She also commended past sponsors and the media for their continued support, while urging more partners to join in promoting the message that “there is profitable and secure business in Nigeria.”

Chairperson of the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI), Dr Badewa Adejugbe-Williams, described the Summit as a vital bridge between diaspora investors and the Nigerian economy.

She added that this year’s theme aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to diversify the economy and promote inclusive growth.
