The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger state, North Central Nigeria, Professor Samuel Egwu has urged leaders of political parties to cooperate with the commission to ensure smooth implementation of the electoral process.
Professor Egwu, who stated this on Monday in Minna, Niger State Capital, mentioned that interacting with stakeholders will enable the commission to conduct a hitch-free poll in 2023.
The INEC Commissioner further said that there are IDP camps in 14 out of the 25 local governments of the state; say, some elected politicians disengage themselves totally from voters, making it impossible for those that voted them into the office to reach them again.
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Monday Bala Kuyas, said the police is not resting on its oars until they ensure free and fair elections next year. He disclosed that the Command had recorded success in the battle against bandits in recent times, adding that the police daily plan crime activities in the state.
The police commissioner, however, advised leaders of political parties and candidates to impress it on their supporters to shun all forms of violence and thuggery during electioneering activities in the state.
