Niger State: NASENI Vice Chairman commissions Entrepreneurship Centre

The Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Professor Mohammed Haruna has commissioned an entrepreneurship Development Centre named after Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Centre which was commissioned at the Scientific Equipment Development Institute Minna SEDI-M, during the institute’s stakeholders forum in Minna, Niger State capital is aimed at addressing poverty and unemployment.

While commissioning the newly constructed centre, Professor Haruna said that it has the capacity to train youths in various new and emerging technologies.

“In line with NASENI’s new vision to meet the challenges of our time, SEDI Minna as one of our development institutes is being repositioned. It is my pleasure to commission the Muhammadu Buhari Entrepreneurship Development Center today. The centre consists of a 250 capacity Multipurpose Hall, 4 offices and 7 skills acquisitions and training rooms. The centre has the capacity to train youths in various technologies within the mandate area of the institute including new and emerging technologies,” Professor Haruna said.

Delivering a presentation: Scientific Equipment as an imperative to Educational and Scientific Development, the Commissioner, Niger State Ministry of Tertiary Education Science and Technology Minna, Prof Abubakar Aliyu explained the unanimous impact of renewable energy as an ever-reliable and alternative source of energy for the country.

“We have to come up with renewable energy because it is easily achievable and it is simple to have. It also helps in the area of water supply and at the same time in structural marine engineering and more”. Prof Aliyu said.

The Managing Director, Scientific Equipment Development Institute Minna Professor Mohammed Ndaliman disclosed that the concept of the centre was made possible through the federal government intervention program under the government policy of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan ERGP 2017-2020.

“We at SEDI Minna and by extension NASENI are more suitable to bring into reality the government policy of ERGP, our manpower capabilities inherent in the workers and the recent leap in infrastructure in the institute can be the springboard of this achievements.

He noted that SEDI Minna partners notable universities and organisations in the country to expand the frontiers of Research and Development for the benefit of society, as well as provide impactful consultancy services and trainings to renowned institutions and state governments in Nigeria.

“The institute has also developed more than one hundred glasswares of various types, shapes, configurations and capacities for different purposes. The institute has over the years also developed mobile laboratories for schools to promote the teaching of science subjects. The mobile laboratories are in three categories namely; the junior secondary science kits, the primary science kit and the Mathematical Kit, Prof Ndaliman said.

Professor Ndaliman called on government at all levels and other stakeholders to take advantage of the institute’s facilities and expertise to sponsor selected youths to the institute for skills acquisitions training in the areas of glass blowing, plastic making, woodworking, machining and metal fabrication among others.
