Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the Southwestern State of Osun has felicitated with Nigerians on the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary, urging them to be hopeful in the face of daunting challenges.
He commended Nigerians for remaining steadfast, saying, “all these years, we have proved to the world that we have all it takes to remain one and indivisible nation under one God“.
In an Independence Day message by his spokesman, Ismail Omipidan, the govermor also urged the people of Osun to look forward to a better tomorrow, stressing that Osun has remained focused on the vision of its founding fathers to mould the necessary bricks that will build the Osun of their dream and pride.
“As we celebrate this 61st anniversary, let us remain steadfast in our belief and hope for a better tomorrow that our policies, programmes and strategies shall bring.
“Our resolve, creativity and innovations have never failed us. Despite the conspiracy of the global economic downturn and the Corona virus pandemic, we have kept our eyes on the mechanics of democracy– good governance, inclusive governance, strong institutions and the rule of law – that never fail at good and bad times.
“Our economy remains resilient even in the face of debilitating resources. We have proven that a resilient economy is possible in the face of crass economic doldrums.”
Oyetola remarked that Osun is gradually moving away from a monolithic economy to a diversified one hinged on the people, tourism and mining – as foreign exchange earners and the drivers of the economy.
He noted that, in the face of economic quagmire and limited resources, the State has stabilized the economy, fulfilled its financial obligations to its workers, plugged loopholes and built infrastructures to entrench socioeconomic development.
The governor urged the residents to collaborate with the government to change the narrative of propaganda and bad governance so they could jointly take state to the mountain tops.
He prayed for a better, stronger, peaceful and a more united Federal Republic of Nigeria.
