Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with China in key areas such as trade, infrastructure development, and diplomatic engagement.

Following a courtesy visit by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Zhou Hongyou, to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kimiebi Ebienfa, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides acknowledged Nigeria’s status as one of China’s most significant partners in Africa, noting the presence of Chinese-supported projects across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

These collaborations, they said, reflect the depth and resilience of Nigeria–China relations.

The engagement also emphasised the importance of reciprocal visits, study tours, and exposure programmes for diplomats to enhance mutual understanding and capacity building.

Particular attention was drawn to short-term and specialised training programmes in governance, administration, strategic communication, and public diplomacy, coordinated by Chinese academic institutions, including Peking University.

Additionally, the Chinese delegation disclosed plans to commemorate the Chinese New Year alongside the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.

Both parties agreed on the need for coordinated media engagement and consistent messaging on February 10, 2026, to mark the occasion and promote greater public awareness of the bilateral relationship.

The meeting concluded with both Nigeria and China reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing institutional cooperation, and expanding people-to-people exchanges for mutual benefit.
