The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has welcomed a new Area Controller, Comptroller Joe Anani. He officially assumed duty following the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi’s deployment.
Anani took over from Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mankini Daniyan at a handover ceremony, where he commended the achievements of his predecessor and promised to build on the command’s successes.
He described PTML as a well-organised command with highly cooperative stakeholders. “I hereby call on all customs officers, sister government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and the press to support me in our goal to sustain PTML as a model port of excellence, known for security, efficiency, and diligent trade facilitation,” Anani said.

The new Area Controller highlighted the successes of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu, particularly its impact on revenue collection and trade facilitation, with a pledge to consolidate on these milestones.
He also urged compliance among port users, stressing its importance in achieving seamless trade processes. He emphasised compliance as the key to trade facilitation, critical for smooth port operations to ensure adherence to regulations, reduce delays, mitigate risks, and foster trust among trading partners.
Anani assured stakeholders that his leadership would strictly uphold the CGC’s directive on anti-smuggling, adding that the CGC’s zero tolerance for smuggling would be duly enforced under his watch. He stated that he was convinced, from his background checks, that stakeholders were on the right track.
The CAC also promised to remain accessible to stakeholders, both physically and virtually.
“Let me use this opportunity to inform you that my office is without a door. I shall be accessible to all, physically and virtually, in the quest to improve on our duties,” he stated.

He further expressed his commitment to faster cargo clearance in line with global standards, pledging to build on and improve the gains achieved by his predecessors in this area, which aligns with the Time Release Study (TRS) programme.
Stakeholders at the event commended outgoing ACG Daniyan for his pioneering role in the successful rollout of B’Odogwu and for fostering a culture of excellence at PTML Command.
President of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, described Daniyan as “a man whose records speak volumes positively,” urging him to bring the same zeal into his new role on the NCS management team.

Similarly, Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), PTML Chapter, Chief Charles Nwarrienne, praised Daniyan’s leadership.
“He is an excellent officer deserving to be issued a certificate of project completion for diligently achieving the success of B’Odogwu from beginning to a state of consolidation,” Nwarrienne said.
The ceremony ended with resounding support for Comptroller Anani’s leadership, as stakeholders pledged continued collaboration with the new CAC to sustain PTML’s reputation as a model of efficiency, compliance, and innovation in port operations.
