The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has charged 12 newly selected volunteers to uphold excellence, patriotism and service as they embark on the 24-month service to Uganda and Sierra Leone under the Technical Aid Corps scheme.

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Director General, Mr Yusuf Yakub, gave the charge during their official orientation exercise at the NTAC Complex in Abuja.

Mr Yakub reiterated his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continuous support of the Agency, noting that “since the assumption of office, Mr President immediately commenced the revival and prioritising Nigeria’s soft power diplomacy through the Technical Aid Corps scheme and has sustained the new tempo since then.”

The Director General assured the volunteers that their welfare remains a top priority for both NTAC and the Federal Government, stressing that they should, on account of that, always appreciate the much that the government does to make the country relevant across the globe.

“The Nigerian government takes care of all you need in this scheme.
While your host country will undertake transportation, accommodations and utility bills. You can now appreciate the much that government does and be very good Ambassadors of the country,” he added.

As lecturers, it is also important that you have this understanding
of the enormous responsibilities of the Nigerian government and impress upon your colleagues the need to always shun industrial action in favour of dialogue,” Mr Yakub emphasised.

The volunteers were advised to maintain close contact with the Nigerian missions in their host countries and to uphold the nation’s image and values in foreign jurisdictions.

The Volunteers, drawn from diverse fields, including medicine, law, education, public health, and ICT, will serve for two years under bilateral agreements designed to promote shared growth and development.
