Nigeria has formally handed over the Chairmanship of the Rabat Process to Switzerland.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernad Doro, affirmed the country’s commitment to support the incoming Chair and ensure the process remains credible, action-oriented, and responsive.
Dr Doro who stated this during the conclusion of the two-day Euro-Africa meeting held in Abuja, further said that Nigeria’s leadership of the process had been guided by the priorities of the Cadiz Action Plan and a clear focus on advancing its objectives.

“We approached this chairmanship through practical, evidence-based dialogue that reflects the realities of countries of origin, transit, and destination,” he said.
“The knowledge product reflects the Cadiz Action Plan’s emphasis on addressing root causes and promoting durable solutions. The discussions highlighted how climate change and environmental degradation are increasingly shaping mobility patterns, displacement dynamics, and reintegration outcomes. This exchange reinforced the need for forward-looking, integrated approaches that link climate adaptation, resilience, and migration governance.”
Dr Doro added: “We trust that these teams will be carried forward in the same spirit of cooperation, responsibility, and respect for human dignity.”

He commended the Rabat Process Secretariat, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and all partner countries and organisations for their continued support.
“Together, we have strengthened our dialogue and reaffirmed our shared commitment to managing migration in a manner that is humane, evidence-based, and sustainable,” he said.
Taking over the Chairmanship on behalf of Switzerland, Ambassador Patrick Egloff noted that migration dynamics are complex and require cooperation across countries of origin, transit, and destination.
“These accomplishments demonstrate what can be achieved when countries act in a spirit of shared responsibility and genuine cooperation,” he said.
Ambassador Egloff praised Nigeria’s leadership, adding: “Nigeria’s Chairmanship has provided a clear direction to our work and has significantly strengthened the momentum of our cooperation. We commend Minister Doro for her strong and committed leadership.”
