Nigeria has been re-elected to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) Board for a sixth consecutive term.
The re-election took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during the 31st ICAO-PKD Board Meeting held in Montreal, Canada, according to an official statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Akinsola Akinlabi.
Akinlabi disclosed that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, led Nigeria’s delegation to the meeting, where the country secured the renewed mandate through its consistent contributions, shared implementation experiences, and innovations in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), electronic Machine-Readable Travel Document (eMRTD) verification, and digital identity harmonisation.
He noted that Nigeria’s membership in the ICAO-PKD since 2009 has been instrumental in shaping the directory’s strategic development and modernisation. The re-election, he said, is a recognition of Nigeria’s technical expertise, compliance, and unwavering commitment to ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
With this development, Nigeria retains its position among the fifteen-member ICAO-PKD Board, drawn from 107 participating states worldwide.
“The achievement reaffirms the Nigeria Immigration Service’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly in fulfilling Nigeria’s international obligations and sustaining its active role within the global community,” Akinlabi stated.
He further emphasised that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains resolute in upholding the highest standards of border security, advancing digital identity initiatives, and safeguarding the integrity of travel documents issued to Nigerians and residents.
