The Director General of Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, Charles Anosike has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global collaboration on Climate action and environmental sustainability.
Anosike disclosed this on Friday while leading a delegation of the agency to the 5th Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability in Tokyo, Japan.
The event brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers from across the world to discuss innovative approaches to global challenges related to climate change, development, and security.
The conference opened with a welcome address by Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University and United Nations Under-Secretary-General.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Måns Nilsson, Executive Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute, and Rumiko Seya, President of Reach Alternatives (REALs).
During the conference, Prof. Anosike and the NiMet delegation participated in several parallel sessions covering topics such as climate action, disaster resilience, migration, climate change mitigation, sustainable peace and security, sustainable agriculture, and environmental sustainability on land and below water.
The team also contributed to discussions and reviews focused on climate governance, urban resilience, equitable climate justice, trans-boundary resource management, and improved methods for monitoring and predicting environmental changes.
NiMet’s participation in the conference promoted knowledge exchange and strengthened collaboration with international stakeholders.
