Nigerian Government Deepens Security Focus on North Central

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding every Nigerian, with a renewed focus on protecting vulnerable communities in Niger State and across the North Central zone.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), Dr Abiodun Essiet, gave the assurance during a session of the Citizens’ Assembly held in Minna, Niger State, where community leaders and key stakeholders from 12 local government areas converged to share first-hand experiences and concerns over security in their communities.

Speaking at the forum, Dr Essiet emphasised that President Tinubu remains resolute in his determination to ensure that every Nigerian, irrespective of location, enjoys the dividends of security and stability, as the Federal Government continues to deepen multi-layered efforts to restore peace in vulnerable communities.

The presidential aide added that the engagement was designed to harvest community-level insights and document feedback from citizens on security threats, while also briefing participants on ongoing Federal Government interventions to curb terrorist attacks and other forms of insecurity in the North Central zone and beyond.

She noted that the Citizens’ Assembly platform remains a critical feedback mechanism for ensuring that grassroots perspectives inform national security responses, adding that community participation is vital to building resilient local security structures.

Dr Essiet also presented the feedback collated from the Citizens’ Assembly, with a view to strengthening coordination and refining strategies aimed at enhancing the protection of lives and property across the state.

The participating local government areas included Mashegu, Edati, Shiroro, Agaie, Agwara, Gurara, Chanchaga, Kontagora, Rafi, Mariga, Munya, and Borgu.

Following the engagement, the presidential aide paid courtesy visits to the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Bello Magaji; the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman; and the State Director of the Department of State Services, Usman Bello Ibrahim.
