The Nigerian government has restated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and national renewal with the launch of a re-orientation campaign to promote honesty, patriotism, and civic responsibility.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known at the 60th anniversary conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) held in Minna, Niger State.

He was represented by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallon Jibrin Baba Ndace.

Idris said the conference theme — “Socio-Economic Potentials, Accountability and National Re-Orientation: Unlocking Nigeria’s Future” — reflects the Federal Government’s reform agenda. He explained that the forthcoming National Values Charter and Re-orientation Campaign, to be launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will strengthen the fight against corruption by reshaping public attitudes.

The Minister also highlighted government initiatives such as the Student Loan Scheme, broadband expansion, digital identity systems, and key infrastructure projects including the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, which passes through Niger State. He further noted the President’s approval of ₦16.7 billion for the reconstruction of the Mokwa Bridge as evidence of the administration’s commitment to citizens’ welfare.

On agriculture, Idris described Niger State as a strategic hub for food security and welcomed the suspension of raw shea exports. He said the policy would boost local processing, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a global leader in shea production.

In his remarks, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago praised ICAN for its contributions to national development and pledged the state government’s full support.

“This is an invitation to development. Niger State is open to partnerships with professional bodies that will bring value to our people,” Governor Bago said as he announced a ₦150 million seed fund for the construction of the ICAN Development Centre in Minna, which he described as a project that would promote professional training and economic growth.

ICAN National President Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya expressed appreciation for the state government’s support. He noted that the development centre, which would be named after Governor Bago, would cost between ₦300 million and ₦400 million.

“With government backing and the support of stakeholders, the project will be completed before the end of the year,” Yahaya assured.

The 60th ICAN conference was attended by members of the professional body from across the country.
