Nigerian Police and DSS To Comply With Court Judgment

The Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have been tasked to comply with the judgment by the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, South East Nigeria on the Fundamental Right suit instituted by a Human Rights lawyer Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

 

Mr Ejiofor had instituted the suit against the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Civil Defence Corp for the illegal invasion of his home in Ummunakwa Ifite, Anambra State 2021, where his Personal Assistant was alleged to have been killed and three domestic workers detained as well as the destruction of personal property.

 

Mr. Ejiofor made the plea while speaking to journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital territory.

 

A judgement by Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court Awka delivered on 22nd July 2022, ordered the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and the Nigerian Army to pay a sum of N107 Million compensation to the lawyer for the unlawful invasion of his house and for destruction done to his personal property during the process.

 

The Judge also issued an order of perpetual injunction against the defendants from further harassing and intimidating the life of the lawyer.

 

Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor lamented over the continued detentions of his domestic staff by the Department of State Service, DSS since June 6, 2021, when his ancestral home in Anambra state was allegedly invaded by security operatives.

 

Mr Ejiorfor who is the lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation to prevail on the Director General of the DSS to release the domestic staff and obey the court judgement.

 

The Judge ordered the security agencies authorities to identify all officers who participated in the dastardly act and sanction them accordingly.

 

The lawyer claimed that he committed no offense other than defending Nnamdi Kanu in the charges brought against him by the Nigerian Government.

 

Mr Ejiorfor, thanked the Federal High Court for the judgment delivered in his suit marked FHC/AWK/CS/56/2021 adding that the court verdict had set the record straight against the denial by the security operatives.
