A Nigerian-born technology entrepreneur, Matthew Akinpelu, has launched a digital platform designed to address the challenges faced by African students and skilled migrants navigating education and employment opportunities abroad.

Akinpelu, who is based in the United Kingdom, said the initiative was informed by difficulties he encountered after relocating from Nigeria, including limited access to clear information on study pathways, career options, and immigration requirements.

According to him, many international students and migrants struggle with fragmented guidance and unclear processes when transitioning into foreign education and labour systems.

He noted that existing institutional support structures often provide general advice that does not adequately account for immigration restrictions, financial pressures, or long-term career planning for migrants.

Akinpelu developed ISCANET, an artificial intelligence-driven platform designed to provide structured guidance for international students and skilled migrants on career readiness and employability within visa-regulated job markets. The platform formally launched in 2024 following pilot programmes and research.

As demand increased among African students seeking opportunities to study overseas, a second platform, AfriApply, was introduced to offer information on international education options and application processes.

Akinpelu said the platforms were designed to reduce misinformation and help users better understand available pathways, rather than replace existing institutional or professional advisory services.

Since its launch, the platform ecosystem has recorded over 15,000 registered users, with engagement reported from more than 60 countries, according to data provided by the founder.

Users include international students seeking employment after graduation and skilled migrants exploring long-term career opportunities abroad.

However, Akinpelu acknowledged that operating across multiple countries presents challenges, particularly in relation to frequently changing immigration policies and the need to ensure accurate and responsible use of technology-driven guidance systems.

He said future efforts would focus on improving data accuracy, adapting to policy changes, and expanding access to information for African students and migrants.

Akinpelu is a Nigerian national and technology entrepreneur whose work focuses on education access, career development, and global talent mobility.
