Nigerian, Turkish Ambassadors Agree to Implement Ankara Agreements

The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, have agreed to advance the bilateral agreements reached in Ankara between the two countries’ leaders.

A statement by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Ambassador Tuggar affirmed that the state visit was historic as anticipated and had created a new chapter in Nigeria–Turkey relations.

The Minister commended “the signing of nine landmark agreements during the state visit for the benefit of the government and people of both countries.”

Ambassador Tuggar also used the opportunity to call for collaboration in the area of training opportunities, particularly highlighting the strong partnership between the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy in Ijanikin, Lagos, and the Turkish Diplomatic Institute.

In his remarks, the Turkish Ambassador appreciated the excellent coordination from the Nigerian side that made the state visit a success. He emphasised that the visit by the Nigerian President to Ankara has deepened relations between both countries as strategic partners and looks forward to the implementation of the decisions reached by the leaders of both countries.

Discussions during the meeting also agreed on channels of communication and further engagements for necessary follow-up mechanisms, including plans to hold a political consultative meeting later in the year to achieve targeted results.
