
Nigeria’s non-oil export sector has recorded a performance of $6.1 billion in 2025, representing an 11.5 percent increase over the $5.4 billion recorded in 2024.
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mrs Nonye Ayeni while briefing journalists in Abuja disclosed that export volume also rose by 10 percent, with total non-oil exports reaching 8.02 million metric tonnes, up from 7.2 million metric tonnes in 2024.
The NEPC boss noted that Nigeria exported 281 non-oil products to 120 countries in 2025, with the Netherlands, Brazil and India emerging as the top destinations by value.
“Export to Netherlands increased by 32.46% with products including cocoa beans, cocoa butter, sesame seeds and others. Export to Brazil increased by 19.07%” she revealed.
Within Africa, Ayeni explained that Nigeria exported non-oil products to 36 African countries, including 11 ECOWAS states.
“This export totaled about 1.23 million metric tons, amounting to 272 million U.S. dollars, constituting a 4.6 percent decrease of the total export. This decrease is as a result of the exit of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS community.”
“In terms of products, Cocoa and its derivatives, Urea, Cashew, Sesame Seed, Gold Dore, Aluminium Ingots, Copper Ingots, Soya Beans and meal, and Rubber emerged as the top-performing non-oil export products for the year.” She disclosed.
The NEPC boss added that of the top 20 leading export companies, Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemical Limited, Dangote Fertilizer Limited and Starlink Global and Ideal Ltd secured the foremost position with 13.13%, 8.41% and 8.06% respectively.
Mrs Ayeni stressed that the African Continental Free Trade Area remains central to Nigeria’s regional trade ambitions, noting that it holds the key to intra-African trade and promises to be the largest free trade area in the world.
