The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in collaboration with Tomorrow.io, has organised a four-day co-design workshop to refine the Digital Climate Advisory Service (DCAS) Decision Tree aimed at supporting Nigerian farmers.
The workshop brings together stakeholders from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, and farmer development groups to integrate NiMet’s 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) with practical farming activities.
The objective is to produce tailored and actionable climate advisories that guide decisions on planting, irrigation, and harvesting.
The DCAS will generate automated advisories for different climate scenarios, including delayed rainfall, dry spells, and early rains, helping farmers reduce weather-related risks and improve productivity.
Brian Miranda of Tomorrow.io commended NiMet’s Director General, Professor Charles Anosike, for his leadership and adoption of artificial intelligence to strengthen early warning systems.
Professor Anosike described the initiative as a game changer, noting that the service is designed to provide farmers with simple and easy-to-understand climate information for everyday decision-making.
The workshop will continue with technical deep-dive sessions where participants will jointly develop and validate the DCAS Decision Tree. The final tool is expected to address key challenges faced by Nigerian farmers by integrating scientific expertise with real-world feedback to deliver timely, climate-informed guidance for both crop and livestock management.
