NISS Trains Farmers, Extension Agents on Soil Management

The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science, (NISS) said it has concluded the training of farmers and extension agents on soil quality management.

At the training which was organized in partnership with the Agricultural Development Programmes (ADPs) of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, Agricultural Development Project boardroom discussed the protection and management of soil resources,

Zonal Coordinator of NISS, Professor Sumaila Sani Noma, who presented a paper on ‘Soil Resources of Nigeria,’ stressed the characteristics and management of Nigerian soils.

Noma, a lecturer of the department of soil science and agriculture engineering, revealed that the soils of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states are moderately fertile with Sandy to loamy sand textures.

Professor Abubakar Dikko, Dr. Aliyu Abubakar, and Malam Sale Lukman, and other speakers presented papers on Integrated soil fertility management, Good agricultural practices, and soil fertility management for maize production in Nigeria among other topics.
