The workers of Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria have shown total compliance to the directive of the National Leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its counterpart, the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Offices in the State were shut down, including Banks and other major institution in the State Capital, Abakaliki.

Speaking to the Journalists, the State Chairman of NLC Ebonyi State Chapter, Comrade Oguguo said the essence of the strike is to drive home their demand and to warn either government or individuals to stop violating human rights by inflicting unlawful torture to any labour activist who is doing his lawful duties.

Gates were shut at the High court, Banks, markets and other important institution.

The Assistant Registrar of the State High court, Mrs. Ogboji Chinenye said no one should oppress either Labour Leaders or workers anymore.

One of the Lawyers, Barrister One Solomon, who spoke to Journalists said “government should always listen to the yearnings of the workers instead of using force as they did to the National President, Comrade Joe Ajero.”

On his part, the Secretary of Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Comrade Awoke Emmanuel said they are simply complying to the national directive.

It would be recalled that the NLC President was beaten up in Imo State before the Governorship Election.
