The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Bashir Ojulari, says the company is engaging partners with proven expertise in refining and petrochemical operations to reposition Nigeria’s refineries for sustainability and profitability.

Ojulari disclosed this during a fireside chat titled “Securing Nigeria’s Energy Future” at the ongoing Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 in Abuja.

He explained that NNPC Ltd’s renewed strategy moves beyond financing and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) delivery to prioritising the right operating model for long-term success.

Getting refineries up and running requires three critical elements: financing, a competent EPC contractor, and world-class operational capacity. That is exactly our focus,” Ojulari said.

The NNPC Ltd boss noted that ongoing corporate transformation has strengthened the company’s commercial outlook and profitability prospects.

On crude oil theft and pipeline availability, Ojulari attributed recent improvements to stronger collaboration with upstream operators and enhanced government-led security interventions in the Niger Delta, including AI-enabled surveillance.

He said the measures have stabilised operations, boosted investor confidence, and improved productivity.

Speaking on the newly launched NNPC Ltd Gas Master Plan 2026, Ojulari described it as a customer-driven strategy focused on in-country gas utilisation, market growth, and shared prosperity, in line with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing industry experts to the NNPC Ltd Board and management, noting that the move strengthens governance, commercial discipline, and global competitiveness.
