Northern Governors Back President Tinubu’s Bold Economic Reform

The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic decisions, describing the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rates as “courageous and long overdue.”

This was mentioned in an interactive session of Northern Leaders in Kaduna, by Governor Yahaya saying, the reforms demonstrate strong political will aimed at steering Nigeria toward economic stability and sustainable development.

According to him, “acknowledging the pain caused by the reforms, Yahaya called on Nigerians to remain patient and resilient, adding that leadership sometimes requires difficult decisions for long-term national gain.”
While urged citizens to support the Federal Government’s efforts by staying hopeful and engaged.

In his own speech, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, applauded the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, describing it as “a practical blueprint for national rebirth.”

He noted that “The agenda is anchored on equity, good governance, transparency, and citizen inclusion, stressing that the government is committed to delivering tangible results.”

The SGF further highlighted the administration’s focus on eight major areas including: Economic growth, Infrastructure, Education, Agriculture, and Security.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who hosted the gathering, also praised President Tinubu for prioritising national security and addressing the socioeconomic challenges affecting Northern Nigeria.

He described the interactive session as timely and vital for bridging the gap between the government and it’s citizens.

Speaking also at the event, former Niger State Governor and also the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Mu’azu Aliyu, reflected on the region’s challenges, pointing to insecurity, inflation, out-of-school children, and unemployment as pressing issues.

He criticised the elite and political class for failing in their responsibilities and called for honest engagement and shared accountability.

The high-profile meeting attracted key government officials including the Ministers of Information and National Orientation, Livestock Development, and Defense, as well as the National Security Adviser and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The two-day event served as a platform for robust dialogue and collective reflection, drawing participation from regional leaders, policy experts, civil society, and the general public.
