The National Population Commission NPC in Nigeria has began preparation ahead of the March 2022 national population and housing census in Nigeria.

The Chairman of the commission, Mr Nasir Kwarra who told journalists during the train-the- trainers workshop for the second census pre-test in Nasarawa State North central Nigeria, said that the date is still tentative as the commission awaits the promulgation of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Kwarra also said that the second census pre-test objective is to “assess the suitability of the questionnaire and contents of the census instruments and the adequacy of the data capture method adopted”.

He added that the exercise will capture 444 enumeration areas across the country.

The Chairman of the commission further said that “the commission is adopting a gradual but meticulous approach to ensure that the methodology and strategy for the pre-test are well tested and the personnel for the exercise are adequately trained.”

The Commission however appealed to “States and Local Government Areas, traditional institutions and communities to support the exercise” for a successful pre-test exercise.

This will be the first digital census conducted in Nigeria if it commenced.
