Nvidia announced on Monday a hardware and software platform aimed at constructing robots with human-like capabilities, incorporating advanced artificial intelligence functionalities.

The new platform comprises a computer system to empower both the robot and AI, alongside a suite of software tools, including genAI and others, intended for crafting human-life robots, as disclosed during its annual developer conference.

incorporation of genAI enables humanoid robots to undertake actions based on various inputs such as language, video, “human demonstrations,” and past experiences called Dubbed Project GR00T, these genAI components will complement the existing hardware and company.

Rev Lebaredian, Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation Technology, highlighted the significance of these advancements, stating, “These smarter, faster, better robots will find applications in heavy industries worldwide.” Collaborating with the global robot and simulation ecosystem, Nvidia aims to expedite development and adoption processes.

The core computational engine driving the genAI software, named “Jetson Thor,”  is built around one of the company’s AI chips and other supporting hardware.

This robust computing system furnishes robots with the necessary processing power to execute complex tasks and engage with humans and machinery effectively.

Referred to as the “Isaac” platform, the suite of software tools, including the new GR00T genAI features, is tailored to function across diverse robotic embodiments and environments. These tools encompass capabilities such as training the software to enhance decision-making through reinforcement learning, enabling continual improvement over time.

Furthermore, Nvidia announced plans to release pre-trained robotics models and additional software aimed at enhancing robotic arm functionalities and multi-camera sensing capabilities.
