Tijani Onwenu, son of the late Nigerian music , fondly known as the Elegant Stallion, has shared a heartfelt reflection on her passing, one year after her death.
He marked the first anniversary of Onwenu’s death with a post on his Instagram page on Wednesday, rekindling memories of the celebrated Nigerian music icon.
The post read: “A year ago, today. RIP Mom. July 30, 2024.”

Onyeka Onwenu reportedly suffered health complications on July 30, 2024, shortly after delivering a scintillating performance at the birthday celebration of Mrs Stella Okoli.
She was, however, rushed to a hospital in Lagos, where she passed away at the age of 72.
Born in 1952, the late Onwenu began her music career in the 1980s with her debut album, “For the Love of You”, released in 1981.
She went on to release numerous albums and singles, including the widely acclaimed hit song “One Love”.

In addition to her musical achievements, Onwenu ventured into acting, appearing in several Nollywood films and earning numerous awards for her contributions to both the music and film industries in Africa.
Beyond her accomplishments in the entertainment sector, she was also a social crusader and politician.
She was appointed Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture in 2013, and later served as Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development in 2016.
In 2011, she was honoured with the National Honours of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
