Women from different walks of life,  on Wednesday, staged a solidarity walk to the State Government House in Osogbo, to endorse the Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, for a second term in office.

The women who embarked on the walk under the auspices of ‘Osun Babes’ said the decision to publicly identify and support the Governor for re-election in 2022 was on account of his numerous laudable initiatives.

They praised Oyetola’s commitment to scaling up the participation of women  in politics, adding that the percentage under Oyetola’s administration was unprecedented.

Speaking on behalf of the women, the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee for Osogbo-West Local Government, Aminat Kareem Atobatele, said the solidarity walk was a bold statement by women to appreciate Oyetola for setting remarkable leadership examples.

She said: “We are here to applaud and appreciate the good works of our Governor in every facet of our dear State. We are also using this medium to make a statement that we appreciate your kindness to the women in Osun.

“We are particularly grateful for the young women you have given the chance to serve in administrative capacities across different strata of governance; this is unprecedented. Women haven’t been given this kind of opportunity in governance in previous years,” Atobatele said.

In his response, Governor Oyetola commended the ‘Osun Babes’ for their efforts, saying that their expression of faith in his administration was a call to do more.

Oyetola, who paid glowing tributes to the women group, assured that women would be given greater visibility in politics going forward. Adding that they can expect to have between 30 and 35 percent of political appointments across different levels.

Oyetola reiterated that his administration was established by God and that whatever good works people see and appreciate were not man-made but God-inspired.

He, therefore, called for more support  and cooperation, assuring that his administration was willing and ready to do more for the people.
